No slowing down for 93 year old Diaine

No slowing down for 93 year old Diaine

There must be something in the air at Cygnet and it is working well for one of its oldest and much-loved residents, Diaine Livingston.

The 93-year-old is as "fit as a fiddle" considering her age and still walks everywhere around the town for her shopping, socialising and most importantly her volunteering role at the Country Women's Association (CWA) shop at Heritage Park.

That stroll is a fair distance from her home at the northern part of town, not far from the Post Office, on the site where the old middle pub used to be.

Mrs Livingston also walks to the RSL most Friday nights for her socialising to round out her routine.

She came to Cygnet 67 years ago with her husband John Barrington Livingston, better known as Barry.

The union produced seven children of whom three are still living in Tasmania, two are on the mainland and sadly two have passed, including one at birth.

During her time in Cygnet Mrs Livingston has devoted countless hours to volunteering, primarily at the CWA.

She was president for about 40 years and still plays an active role in the organisation.

She admits to a love of cooking.

And she will cook anything.

At present apples and pears are the main ingredients but chocolate treats and sweets are not far off the menu.

Mrs Livingston believes the CWA plays an important role in our society.

"It offers friendship to the people who get involved and that is always important," she said.

"I definitely think it plays an important role in people's lives.

"And it's also nice to see younger people getting involved."
