A democratically elected council moves one step closer

Nominations have closed, and 27 candidates have been announced, for the nine available positions on the Huon Valley Council in the upcoming local government elections - the Huon News chats to Tasmanian Electoral Commissioner Andrew Hawkey about the Hare Clark system and how best to maximise the power of your vote.

Local teachers joined representatives from AEU in the Walk Off for Workload industrial action last Thursday in Huonville.  Teachers are unhappy with the State Government's pay offer of a 6 per cent increase over three years.

The Huon Valley Council are looking to sell off the council owned medical centre in George Street, Cygnet to a private operator and other healtchare providers in the area are unhappy.
