The Cygnet Association (tCA) is set to bring year-round colour and interest to both ends of Mary Street in Cygnet via a new banner project featuring the artwork of local children.
The group is working to install four banners each at the north and south entrances of the village, with another opposite the town hall.
The project has seen the tCA engage with the creativity of local home-schooled students, as well as those from St James and Cygnet Primary.
The organisers were quite pleasantly surprised to find they had 84 pieces of art to work with; these will be used to produce 27 banners in total, arranged as three sets of nine.
They will highlight spring and summer, autumn and winter, and Christmas, to be flown outside specific event periods.
A talented graphic designer has been engaged by the tCA to convert the artworks into banner templates, with the aim of having the new banners flying by spring 2026
The project has been fully funded by Farah’s IGA in Cygnet, covering the cost of producing all banners.
The broader Cygnet business community has also contributed to help meet exhibition costs.
To showcase the young artists’ work and mark the progress from artwork collection to banner production, tCA will hold an exhibition at the Lovett Gallery from Friday, August 7, to Sunday, August 9.
The exhibition, titled Views of the seasons of Cygnet, as seen by our children, will open with a suitably grand event on Friday at 5pm, hosted by the tCA and Huon Art Exhibition Group chairs – everyone is invited.
The exhibition will then be open from 10am to 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.
