Pioneering in Glen Huon

The Glen Huon Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosted a Pioneer activity in Glen Huon on Saturday, November 8.
The day included a variety of events and the weather was kind.
A graveyard quiz took place at the Glen Huon Uniting Church, while family history and early church displays were set up in the Glen Huon Hall’s supper room.
There were wood chopping competitions and a hand cart challenge, and on the oval were
a tug of war, stick pulling contests, and pioneer games for children, including a sack race.
Attendees shared a dinner featuring foods similar to those eaten by early pioneers.
The day also included a fruit pie and crumble competition, with Anne Menzie taking first place, Jacob Ziesel second, and Donna Watson third.
The evening ended with a musical production organised by Louella Jury, who performed on keyboard alongside guitarist Stan Watson, and included six singers and two narrators.
A special guest was Sister Marva Priday from the United States, the great-granddaughter of Elder Brigham Heber Bingham Jr. who served as a missionary in Hobart and Glen Huon in 1899 and 1900.
The event drew over 100 people, including guests from the Huon Valley, Hobart, mainland Australia, and the United States.
