The international insolvency network of Rodgers Reidy has been engaged to delve into the financial situation of the Geeveston Ex-Servicemen’s and Women’s Club which recently revealed a tax office debt of more than $800,000.

The small club, with a membership base of approximately 200 is the community lifeblood of Geeveston’s 1400 residents.

But with a tax debt of $817,000 its future is clouded.

The debt is understood to have been incurred over the past decade and was revealed to members by a new committee that was elected in November.

The initial task of assessing the club’s financial situation is being undertaken by Rodgers Reidy director of Hobart and Launceston services, Shelley Brooks.

Ms Brooks is a registered liquidator and restructuring services director, with over 15 years’ experience in corporate and personal insolvency, acting for mortgagees and business turnaround.

She has been appointed Receiver and Manager in many industries, by various banking institutions and engaged by major financiers to undertake various investigated accountants’ reviews within the hospitality and agricultural sectors.

Her experience spreads wide in the financial sector including acting as voluntary administrator, deed administrator or liquidator to many entities on behalf of banks, directors, and the courts.

Ms Brooks holds a Bachelor of Commerce and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.
