The Huon Valley PCYC has unveiled a vibrant new foyer mural created by Tasmanian Aboriginal artist Reuben Oates.
The large-scale artwork, completed in just ten days, has been warmly received by the community.
“The Huon Valley PCYC immersive foyer mural is a wrap,” Reuben said, celebrating the project’s completion.
He reflected on the experience, saying, “What an absolute joy it was to connect with Emma, Bill, and Tayla during this creative journey.
“If I wasn’t focused on the mural, you could find me at the front desk, having the time of my life with these three incredible humans!
“Thank you all for making the creative process so unbelievably enjoyable.”
The mural, now a standout feature of the PCYC foyer, showcases native birds, intricate patterns, and wombats.
Its eye-catching design has drawn praise from all who have seen it, with PCYC staff particularly impressed by the local artist’s talent.
“Reuben, you have done a fantastic job, and we couldn’t be happier with it,” a spokesperson for PCYC said.
“Thanks for allowing us to get a look into your creative process with this mural.”
The project was made possible with funding from Health Consumers Tasmania, supporting local art and community spaces.
This is not the first time Reuben has made his mark on the Huon Valley.
He recently completed another mural on the Sale Street toilet blocks in Huonville, continuing to enhance public spaces with his creativity.
Reuben has now set his sights on a new project in Burnie, where he will be working on a large-scale amphitheatre mural.
