Work is progressing at Franklin’s Wooden Boat Centre on their popular restoration of the Little Blue Boat that was recused from a potential watery grave in the River Derwent earlier this year.
The Sea Breeze was moored off Montrose in Hobart’s northern suburbs for the past 50 years before a September storm and wild winds broke her moorings and she was cast adrift.
A rescue mission was successful, and the vessel was transported to the Wooden Boat Centre.
The boat has been cleaned up, the engine removed and most of the old paint stripped.
The idea now is for more preparatory work before the craft is taken to the Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart in February and put on public display.
This will give the public the ideal opportunity to get up close and personal with the boat that has captured the imagination of generations.
One of the plans for the festival is for the public to paint a section of the Little Blue Boat, giving them the opportunity to be a real part of the restoration process.
