Honouring the Palais

The Palais now has new front steps and hand railings that are fully compliant with current regulations thanks to the Huon Valley Council.

Keeping an old building looking its best requires a lot of work, and regular sprucing up.
Over the winter months, the Palais Theatre has undergone a fair amount of beautification and repair work, making sure it is ready for a busy spring and summer of events.
Most noticeably from the outside, the Palais now has new front steps and hand railings that are fully compliant with current regulations thanks to the Huon Valley Council.
New hand railings on the internal stairs as an additional safety measure have also been installed.
Inside the main hall, recent visitors will have noticed that the ugly, chipped and broken glass brick windows at the rear of the hall have been replaced by new windows and frames, in keeping with the heritage status of the theatre.
This makes the rear of the hall very much lighter and brighter.
These and the original big sash windows have all been dressed with new, easier-to-use blinds to complete the revamp.
Those with a good eye for detail will also have seen that the proscenium arch plasterwork has been beautifully restored and painted providing a wonderful art deco frame for performers on stage.
The stage itself is dressed with new elegant heavy wool fire-resistant stage and side curtains, a big improvement on the tatty black cotton jobs that had been there longer than most can remember.
Finally, the beautiful original main hall floor has had a light sand and re-coat which brings it back to life.
With these improvements, and more planned, the Palais Theatre is ready for a busy program of upcoming events.
Events being organised by the Palais Management Committee include the monthly movie, with an interval halfway through, giving everyone the chance to have a social catch-up over supper, and the annual Garage Sale in October.
There are also many musical events coming to the Palais over the next few months
