90 years young

June 9, 2023
in Local News

Image: Celebrating Tiger Coulson’s 90th birthday at the Geeveston Ex-Servicemen’s and Women’s Club were, back row, son Tony Coulson, Judy Coulson, son Gary Coulson and Glenyse Coulson. Front row, Colleen Shield, Betty Coulson and Tiger Coulson.

As a testament to the high esteem in which he is held, the Geeveston Ex-Servicemen’s and Women’s Club was filled to the brim with family and friends who joined Rex ‘Tiger’ Coulson in celebrating his 90th birthday on Sunday.

Tiger was born on Tuesday, June 6, 1933, during the Great Depression; a time when Joseph Lyons was Prime Minister, George V was King of England, and Australia’s population was only 3,262,728.

Son Tony was MC for the afternoon and thanked everyone for coming and helping the family celebrate Tiger’s birthday.

Tiger’s earliest memory at five years of age, was moving from their old home into their new home in 1938, along Scotts Road, which cost £430 to build.

Tiger went to the Geeveston Area School, finishing Grade 10 in 1949.

Tiger didn’t go into the classroom during his last year, instead he stayed in the workshop and helped to build the school football ground.
