16 reports of littering and dumping were recorded for the Huon Valley Council municipality in the 24-months from February 1, 2021 to February 3, 2023 by
the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Tasmania.
In response to community concern state-wide about littering and rubbish dumping, EPA Tasmania developed a Report Rubbish website and app to encourage Tasmanians to report rubbish dumped and any large-scale littering.
However, many more incidents of dumped rubbish and littering remain undocumented and undetected in the Valley, with the spread of dumping and litter becoming a frequent occurrence.
One Franklin resident recently reported to the Huon News of a frequently littered area of Crown land on the Huon Highway outside of Franklin, including a load of tyres dumped that morning two weeks ago.
