A review is currently underway by the Tasmanian Government to identify opportunities to expand the healthcare service offerings of pharmacies in Tasmania.
Premier and Minister for Health Jeremy Rockliff announced in late December that a review was formerly being conducted by
KPMG into pharmacists’ scope of practice.
“The Government has committed to working with pharmacy and medical representative groups to improve Tasmanians’ access to safe and effective care, with a particular focus on supporting the state’s general practitioners via changes to services pharmacies offer,” Premier Rockliff stated.
“The Review will include a comprehensive and evidence-informed assessment of the scope of practice for pharmacists in Tasmania and will provide advice and recommendations to the Tasmanian Government.”
Premier Rockliff acknowledged the opportunity to build on the services that pharmacists can provide to the community,
to better deliver health services and ease pressure on general practitioners and our hospitals.
