The GRIT – Tasmanian Spirit on Screen program is coming to the Huonville Town Hall on Saturday, October 15, with a selection of Tasmanian-made short films for Tasmania.

Developed by Wide Angle Tasmania, the project aims to showcase the ‘grit’ seen in the Tasmanian community and spread stories of courage within Tasmania.

Six award-winning filmmakers were selected to get involved in the project and produce their own films as an interpretation of the theme.

Producer of the GRIT project Franziska Wagenfeld stated that the series, supported by the Tasmanian Community Fund, wanted to address Tasmania’s need to improve community resilience.

“Films are a powerful force for creating social change and building social cohesion in our community,” expressed Ms Wagenfeld.

“Seeing people just like us who are resilient and resourceful can provide us with role models and help us to empathize and understand ingrained social issues in new ways.

“Throughout the pandemic and moving forward, we need stories that unite our community and build greater social bonds and resilience.
