Freshwater quality in the Huon

by Huon News
July 28, 2022
in Local News

Local Landcare organisations are hoping to reform Waterwatch groups around the Valley, after the waning of interest and the need for more quality water testing in the Huon.

Waterwatch began as a community water sampling program, primarily based at the Huon Valley Council (HVC), with reports and studies arising from data collected within the Waterwatch community helping to inform State Government and Local council action on water quality.

A state report released 25 years ago into the water quality of the Huon region helped to summarise data and provide a plan for future monitoring, the report part of a much larger project called the “Huon Catchment Healthy Rivers Project”, which had the aim of developing a sound, scientific knowledge base for long term planning and management of the Huon regions waterways.
