The ANZAC spirit was strong on Monday, April 25, with the Huon Valley commemorating Australian and New Zealand veterans and soldiers.

Ceremonies were held around the Valley in Huonville, Cygnet, Franklin, Geeveston, Dover and Judbury in a mix of dawn and morning services.

At the Franklin Dawn Service, conducted by the Franklin Progress Association, Reverend Richard Edwards conducted a moving service in front of what locals said was the largest gathering in memory.

Reverend Edwards welcomed all attending and spoke of the great sacrifices that brave men and women endured during the First and Second World Wars and spoke of the current war in Ukraine and the many past wars that caused so much suffering and destruction.

“Those who went to war to defend the principles of truth and justice for this country, we thank,” Reverend Edwards stated.
