Infrastructure no one’s problem

“I just can’t handle the stress anymore.” Ranelagh resident John Riseley is fed up of dealing with TasWater and its infrastructure located at the front of his Huonville property.

After a flooding incident from an air valve and vent resulted in sewerage leaking on to Mr Riseley’s property in 2020, a longterm discussion has been held between TasWater and Mr Riseley.

“Firstly, they said to me that it is waste water infrastructure and that it couldn’t be sewerage on my property,” Mr Riseley explained.

“I know when it flooded that it was sewerage on my lawn.”

The infrastructure, located on an implied easement on Mr Riseley’s property, does not require changes or to be moved, according to TasWater.

However, in previous discussions and meetings at Mr Riseley’s property, TasWater representatives have mentioned relocation of the infrastructure on to a nearby property, where any potential incidents of flooding in the future would not impact upon Mr Riseley, with any run off then running onto the neighbouring field, not sitting stagnant on Mr Riseley’s lawn.
