Huon Valley Council (HVC) Mayor Bec Enders officially announced on Friday, March 18 her resignation from the HVC, after previously declaring in May 2021 that she would not be recontesting her position at the next local government election.

In an official statement, Ms Enders stated that while the council has been her priority, recent time away from the council has led to both Ms Enders and her husband John deciding that now was the appropriate time to leave the council.

“Council has been my priority and I have been fortunate to have the support of my husband John and loved ones who have enabled me to fully focus on achieving for the municipal area,” Ms Enders explained.

“Leaving my resignation until now has ensured that our community will not be burdened by a by-election after what has been an extraordinary time in local government.”

Ms Enders went on to discuss projects and actions undertaken by the HVC during her time in what was a source of pride for her.

“Your current council managed to shine the light on the Huon Valley and secure over $28 million in funding from 2021 election priorities, and projects for which they advocated, for were also funded,” Ms Enders said.
