Celebrating Women in Wood

Prior to International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 8, the Geeveston Community Centre officially opened its Women Working with Wood exhibition at the Geeveston Town Hall on Friday, March 4 in celebration of Women Makers.

Items on display included hand-carved spoons, wooden toolboxes, chopping boards, bowls and an Adirondack chair made by women during woodworking programs.

President of the Geeveston Community Association Jeremy Brown stated that the idea for a women working with wood workshop came from the COVID era, with many community groups shutting down and emerged as a space for women to learn, construct and share skills amongst each other in woodworking.

“This exhibition was something that emerged from the workshops and has grown and taken off; this is just a bit of what has come from this,” Mr Brown expressed.
