An Australia Day Award presented in 2015 to a person since convicted of rape should have been formally withdrawn by the Huon Valley Council
(HVC) at the time of the man’s conviction, former mayor Peter Coad recommended.
Timothy Brown, a former rowing coach, was presented with an Australia Day award for his service to sport and was then convicted in 2019 of indecent assault and rape.
The HVC, in a closed council meeting decided that no further action needed to be taken after the convicted man had already relinquished his award, the council stating it was no longer required.
