Councillor sworn in

by Huon News
July 7, 2021
in Local News

After last week’s announcement that Sue Clark has joined Huon Valley Council as a councillor, following the departure of Mike Wilson and a recount to fill the vacancy, an oath of office and induction has taken place.

“On behalf of councillors, staff and our community, the Huon Valley Council warmly welcomes Councillor Clark to the role of Councillor,” said Mayor Bec Enders.

“We will work with Councillor Clark to get her up to speed, as soon as practical of the activities, projects and programs of Council that have been endorsed by the Council since November 2018.

“This briefing program also includes councillor inductions to ensure that Councillor Clark has the support mechanisms at her disposal and set her up for success,” said Mayor Enders.

“Thank you to my family and friends who encouraged me to take up this position,” said Councillor Clark.

“My aim is to be the voice of the older residents of the Huon Valley.”

Councillor Clark served on the Huon Valley Council from 1993 to 2000, just after the three Huon councils amalgamated.

Sue was the only female councillor at that time and served on the Aged Care and Housing Advisory Committee, as well as on the Executive of Council.

Sue has been in the real industry for over 35 years, and started her own real estate business in 1997, opening several offices in the Huon Valley and Kingston.

Councillor Clark has always been involved in local sporting bodies, both as a competitor and in management, and is currently president of the Huon Valley Golf Club.

“I am passionate about the Huon Valley and the diversity of the community and can see the area growing rapidly,” said Councillor Clark.

“I would love to see more money spent on health, housing, roads and footpaths.

“There are many more issues that I think need addressing and I look forward to working with councillors and staff for the coming 12 months.”

The Huon Valley Councillors and staff look forward to working with Sue to service and support the community and move towards the vision and goals shared for the Huon Valley.
